HU’s Museum to Unveil its Newest Work: Itself
Founded in 1868, the Hampton University Huntington Memorial Museum is the oldest museum for African American history in the country. From its first exhibit "200 Years of African American Fine Art" to the most recent ones of Indigenous and African Art, the museum has displayed over 12,000 pieces of work in its lifetime.
At the beginning of President Darrell K. Williams' term he announced that the museum would be undergoing an expansion, but there is more to the renovation than just a pretty exterior. Dr. Vanessa D. Thaxton-Ward, the HU Huntington Memorial Museum Director, was more than glad to share details about the expansion.
